GMS students are concerned with two kinds of mathematics requirements—the CSU Entry Level Mathematics Exam (the ELM) and one of several SDSU Mathematics Placement Exams. The following reviews general information and links students to appropriate sources.
ELM Exam
The CSU ELM requirement may be satisfied by passing the ELM exam or by receiving a credit in GMS 91.
General information about the ELM exam may be obtained from the SDSU Test Office.
A list of testing dates may be obtained from the SDSU Test Office.
If you plan to take the ELM exam you may register online.

SDSU Math Placement Exams
Descriptions of the SDSU Math Placement Exams and testing dates may be obtained from the SDSU Test Office.
General Guidelines concerning these Tests
Passing the ELM does not clear the SDSU Math Placement, Part IA, requirement, and passing the IA does not satisfy the ELM.
Passing the ELM or any SDSU Math Placement Exam does NOT affect GMS class grades in any way; GMS grades are based solely on class participation, midterm scores, and final exam scores.
