Blaine Malcolm received his BA in English literature from Cal State San Bernardino in 2013. After taking a few years off, he completed his Masters in English from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2018. For his master’s project, Blaine explored how “coming out” in first-year composition classes encouraged critical thinking, and he also analyzed the ways LGBT+ representation in comic books led to more mainstream depictions today. Blaine has been a lecturer in the RWS department since 2018 and has participated in various department committees since arriving a few short years ago. It’s his ultimate goal to show his students that reading and writing go beyond essay writing and can enact necessary change.
