Eberly Barnes earned her Ph.D. in English at St. Louis University, where she studied the evolution of consciousness and history of rhetoric with Walter J. Ong.  In addition, she holds an M.A. in English from The University of Texas at Austin and a B.A. in English from Louisiana College.  Her interests include rhetoric and writing; sustainability; racial and social justice; creative nonfiction; and contemplative education.  She enjoys theatre, concerts, meditation, yoga, tai chi, basketball, boogie-boarding, hiking, and all forms of exploring nature.  She has taught yoga for many years and is currently enrolled in a qigong teacher training with Kenneth Cohen. She also serves as the Assistant Director of the Making of the Modern World Program at UCSD, where she teaches pedagogy and hires, trains, and supervises teaching assistants for the program.
