Robin Avner grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. She majored in English at Amherst College and earned a Ph.D. from the Humanities Center at Johns Hopkins University. She has lived in San Diego since 1998 and joined the Department of Rhetoric and Writing Studies in 2005. Robin believes that supporting claims with reliable evidence is the foundation of academic discourse. She enjoys analyzing arguments with students because that process develops skills for making effective arguments in the classroom and beyond.
